Laid down by Yarrow&Co., London, England in 1886, launched in 1886, trial in September 1886, commissioned on 1 April 1887, her locomotive boiler was replaced by 2 water tube boilers and fitted out with 3 instead of 2 funnels in 1901, stricken in 1911, added to the submarine service as support vessel in January 1913, machinery removed at the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis and converted into a target in 1918. The Dutch newspaper Voorwaarts dated 24 September 1931 published an item dated Den Helder, Netherlands 23rd reported that she was sunk off Callandsoog when she was used as a target by the Hr.Ms. Gelderland during the naval manoeuvres. Her ‘point’ pointed about 3 metres above the water level. The Dutch tug Utrecht, a salvage vessel and the diving service of the Royal Netherlands Navy were under way to the wreck to salvage it and tow it back to the Nieuwe Diep. The Heldersche Courant dated 26 September reported that she was not towed back. In 1947 is a target Ardjoeno with a length of 48 meters mentioned lying sunk in the entrance of the harbour of Den Helder. She was scuttled there by the Germans. The other remains were to be salvaged in the coming weeks. The Kluut was sold to Brazil and to be replaced by the 200 tons sheerleg Condor, which also could be used to lift the sunk Dutch submarine O 11. The edition dated 9 October reported a successful salvage of the other half on 7 October and which were grounded against the breakwater. After the remains were floating again were those to be towed to the Kuiltje. Displacement 83 ton and as dimensions 38.37 x 3.88 x 2.09 metres.
