Catch results of the Dutch Greenland commandeur Luytje Brak according to the Dutch newspaper Oprechte Haerlemsche courant dated 14 August 1749

An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 13 August reported the arrival at Texel, Netherlands on 12 August of whalers bringing with them a list with the catch results of the Dutch Greenland commandeur L. Brak 90 quardelen 3 whales.(1)

1. Luyte Brak, Greenland commandeur between 1726-1749 for Jan Aldertsz Boon, De Rijp, total results 72 whales-12,227 barrels blubber in 1749 respectively 3-100-150 quardelen whale oil.

An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 19 August reported the arrival at Texel of the Dutch Greenland commandeur Pieter Willemsz 18 whales.

French privateers harrassing Dutch and German Greenland whalers according to the Dutch newspaper Amsterdamse courant dated 30 August 1710

An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 29 August referred to a statement of the Dutch Greenland commandeur Meyndert Jansz Spykerschrift (1) arriving on 28 August at Texel, Netherlands that he was captured by the French privateer Postillon on 7 August on 79.5 degrees leaving the ice in the fog. A few days earlier she captured the hooker of commandeur Jan Meyer of Texel. All prizes were released after been plundered. Afterwards Spykerschrift went to Hitland [Shetland Isles] where the whalers were of the commandeurs Gerbrand (2), Jan (3) and Pieter Dirksz (4) van de Velde, de Ryperkerk of Jacob Pietersz Groot(5), ’t Wapen van Medenblik commandeur Jan Kas (6) and ’t Wapen van Rynland commandeur Bruyn Jansz (7) (now also lying at Texel) which were chasen by another privateer but with the support of the Van de Veldes escaped. A galliot with letters and the whaler Keurvorst van Beyeren commandeur Symen Willemsz van het Oog (8) were however captured. The blubber was loaded on board of the galliot and sent away, the whaler however was sent into fire and burned. Probably was one whaler of Hamburg captured and several whalers still present in the Bay.

Dutch Greenland commandeur Symon Danielsz returned home according to the Dutch newspaper Amsterdamse courant dated 8 September 1703

An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 7 September reported the recent arrival in the Vlie or at Texel of the Dutch Greenland commandeur Symon Danielsz 1 whale. Leaving the ice they heard about the war with France and went not to the rendezvous but straight home.

An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 7 September reported the recent arrival in the Vlie or at Texel of the Dutch Greenland commandeur Jacob Segers 4 whales. Leaving the ice they heard about the war with France and went not to the rendezvous but straight home.

Dutch whaler ’t Kasteel Breda for sale at auction at Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1735

Shipbrokers Jacob Michiel Brouwer and Hendrik Eyssingh. Auction at Nieuwezyds Heeren Logement, Haarlemmerdyk, Amsterdam on Monday 24 October 1735 after the Boomklok stopped of the Dutch fluyt ’t Kasteel Breda, commandeur Jan Vos. Lying in the Laag between the Kraans and Hankes boom. Dimensions 105¼ (prow) x 25.4 (first beam before large hatch within the hull) x 11.4 (depth of hold at first beam before large hatch on load line) x 6.1 (height verdeck first beam before large hatch) x 8.7 (height steering wheel area), Amsterdam foot. Sold for ƒ 2,600 to Jan Wijmber?

Dutch and German whalers bound for Greenland numbering 155 ships according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche courant dated 24 March 1768

An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 21 March reported that 123 Dutch whalers were to be sent to Greenland: 12 of Amsterdam, 1 of Dordrecht, 5 of Rotterdam, 1 of Krimpen, 4 of Alkmaar, 3 of Hoorn, 1 of Monnikendam, 2 of Wieringerwaard, 19 of Zaandam, 1 of Oostzaan, 3 of Westzaan, 2 of Zaandijk, 2 of De Koog,2 of Jisp, 4 of De Rijp, 1 of Harlingen, 24 of Hamburg, Germany, 2 of Altona, Germany, 1 of the East [Germany?] en of Bremen, Germany. Totally 155 whalers and further more 26 seal hunters of Hamburg, 13 of Altona and 3 of Glückstadt.
