German submarine sighted convoys on sea lane Port Said-Medina Bank according to the Kriegsnachrichten No. 60 of the Chef des Admiralstabes der Marine dated 28 June 1918

An item referring to a 8-days surveillance of a submarine reported that mid May on the line Port Said-Medina Bank between 17-22 degrees east three convoys coursing to the east were sighted.

The armament of the Dutch merchant ship Phrontis in the Second World War

According to the list and supplements 1-2 on 13 September 1945 BDZ No. 673 sent by the office of armament the Royal Netherlands Navy located at 41 East 42nd Street, New York 17, USA. There were no complete records available, so there were several sources used to compile the list. Sometimes the kind of guns gave indirect information regarding the origin such as 4”/BL and 12 pounder guns were British mostly supplied in the United Kingdom, Canada or Curacao. The 4.7” guns were old Japanese guns placed on some vessels in the begin of the war at Singapore and some 4” guns in the same period at Surabaya, Dutch East Indies. The trade in which the ship was used gave also an indication were the guns were supplied, for example involved in the Pacific trade means supplied at the West Coast.

Motor cargo ship, launched by Caledon Shipbuilding&Engineering Company Ltd., Dundee, Scotland with yard number 295 in 1926, delivered in April 1926 to the Nederlandsche Stoomvaart Maatschappij ‘Oceaan’ N.V., Amsterdam, Netherlands, sold on 20 June 1958 to Mohamed Abubakur Bakhashab, Saudi Arabia and renamed Ryad and summer 1959 sold to the Chung Hing Enterprise Co., Hong Kong [China] to be broken up. Arriving there on 25 August 1959 and broken up in November. Gross tonnage 6.181 tons, net tonnage 3.835 tons, deadweight 7.820 tons, grain capacity 507.000 cubic feet, bale capacity 479.000 cub feet and dimensions 429.4 x 54.8 x 29.1 feet.

Dutch screw steamship Noord-Braband arrived at Batavia, Dutch East Indies coming from the Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 26 September 1888

An item dated 25th reported the passing of Nieuw Anjer [nowadays Anyer, Indonesia] by the Dutch steamship Noord-Braband underway from Rotterdam, Netherlands towards Batavia, Dutch East Indies. She arrived the same day at Batavia, captain Mets coming from Rotterdam via Suez, Egypt and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, shipping agents Rotterdamsche Lloyd.(1)

An item reported that the navy consisted of three American build submarines, six PT boats, nine patrol vessels, eight landing crafts, two armed coastal vessels and a personnel strength of around 1,000 men. The details were supplied by Mr. David Wood of the Institute for Strategy.
