Czechoslovakia building inland vessels, tugs and excavators for the Soviet Union according to a CIA report dated 17 May 1955

An item reported that also Czechoslovakia had to build floating excavators, inland vessels and tugs for the Soviet Union. The department responsible for planning the building was accommodated in the administrative building of the Tatra Works at Prague. The personnel strength of the staff numbered 300 persons among which were engineers, draftsmen and clerks. For the shipyards is was in fact a financial disaster. Except for the shipyards at Komarno were the smaller vessels built at Litomerice (geographical coordinates 50.32 north and Melnik (50.21 north and 14.29 east) and at Prague-Liben the self-powered floating excavators. Of the latter were last the newest build sen to Latvia to be used by the digging of new canals. The inland vessels and tugs had as destination the rivers Ob and Yenisei. The intention was to start this year with the building of similar vessels for the Czech shipping company (Ceskoslovenska paroplavni spolecnost).
