Part of K- or Acasta-class preceded by Acheron-class succeeded by L- or Laforey-class. The class numbered 20 ships, of 12 which built while using the common Admiralty-design and 8 so-called builders’specials. The Acasta-class was in September 1913 redesignated K-class. Built under the Naval Programme of 1911-1912. Admiralty K-class design. Laid down by Harland&Wolff, Govan, Scotland with yard number 364 on 18 January 1912, launched on 20 March 1913, completed in January 1914 and sunk in Moray Firth on 9 August 1915 after hitting a mine laid by the German raider Meteor 9.

Call sign LDMD. Owner in 1939 A/S Odd, managers A/S Thordahl. Laid down by Blohm&Voss, Hamburg, Germany with yard number 139 for the Dutch Holland America Line (HAL), Rotterdam, Netherlands on 4 May 1899, launched on 15 December 1899, completed on 5 May 1900, sold to the Swedish America Line in September 1915, sold to the Hvalfangerstakjeselskabet Atlas in November 1928, fitted out as whaling factory ship, captured by German auxiliary cruiser Pinguin in the Southern Ocean on 14 January 1941, arrived with prize crew at Bordeaux, France on 16 March, added to the Kriegsmarine and renamed Sonderburg, managed by the Erste Deutsche Wahlfang Gesellschaft in 1941,managed by the Trossschiffverband in1942, scuttled by Germans in the English Channel of Cherbourg, France in June 1944, partly blown up with explosives in August 1946, raised in January 1947 followed being broken up at Britain. Gross tonnage 12,246 tons, under deck 9,522 tons, net tonnage 7,090 tons and as dimensions 550.1 x 62.1 x 34.6 feet. 

British cargo ship Trewelward lost according to the War Cabinet Weekly Résumé No. 64 of the Naval, Military and Air Situation 14-21 November 1940

An item reported the loss on 5 November of the British cargo ship , tonnage 5,201 tons, loaded with steel , underway from Boston, USA to Liverpool, England sunk by a surface raider on the position approximate 52.26 North and 32.34 West; Part of a convoy. Of the crew were 25 men landed in Newfoundland.(1)

1. The raider was the German pocket battleship Admiral Scheer. She was part of the convoy HX84 escorted by the armed merchant cruiser HMS Jervis Bay.

German base ship Pelagos in early February 1942

Report dealing with the available repair ships, base ships and shipyards in early February 1942 mentioned the base ship Pelagos which was a former Norwegian whale factory ship lying at Narvik, Norway. Fitted out with an expanded workshop but lacking personnel. In Germany was around 30 men available on call. A letter dated Berlin 5 November 1942 2308/42 mentioned her tank capacity heating oil 6,709 M3, V.f.t.oil 143 M3 and diesel oil 214 M3. (1)

1.Launched as cargo ship Athenic by Harland&Wolff, Belfast, Northern Ireland with yard number 341 for account of Shaw Savill&Albion on the shipping line London-Wellington, New Zealand on 17 August 1901, completed on 23 January 1902, commissioned on 14 February 1902, bought by the Norwegian Hvalfangersk Pelagos A/S and converted into a whale factory ship in 1928, captured by the German commerce raider Penguin on 15 January 1941, sunk at Kirkenes, Norway in 1944, salvaged and repaired and again active as whale factory ship until broken up in 1962.

British cargo ship Meta visited Lisbon, Portugal in June-July 1941

In his letter No. 855 dated Lisbon 8 July 1941 reported the German naval attaché in Portugal to the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine at Berlin the marine traffic at Lisbon between 29 June-5 July 1941. British cargo ship Meta, arrived on 29 June coming from Leith, Scotland, departed on 5 July towards Sweden. Article 29669. Gross tonnage 1,575 tons. Cargo consisted of coal. Departed empty.
