The American consulate at Tahiti, Society Islands wrote on 29 April 1914 No. 27 that the Argentine school ship Presidente Sarmiento on 28 April arrived at Papeete for bunkering coal and fresh water aft er stay of 3-4 dats would leave for Japan via the Marquesas Island possible visiting Honolulu, Hawaii underway.

Order confirmed by the French Minister of the Armed Forces on 17 January 2020, announced contarct on 3 November 2019, contract awarded to Socarenam, Boulogne-sur-Mer/CNN MCO, Brest consortium on 24 December 2019. Laid down in June 2021, Launched by Socarenam, St. Malo, France on 5 September 2022, trials in autumn 2023, christened at Calais, France on 19 October 2023, departed to Papeete in March 2024, arrived in May and commissioned on 18 July.

Vichy France negotiating with Japan for transfer merchant ships according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 27 December 1941

An item referred to CINC Singapore reporting that the Indo-China government negotiated with Japan for dispatching of 2-3 French merchant ships to transport troops to sent from Indo-China to capture Tahiti, French Polynesia. Impossible to do so by Vichy France was such attack by Japan or together with Vichy France against Free French territories a possibility. The news was valued as possible rumors.

Belgian whaler Oceanic visited Honolulu, Hawaii according to the newspaper The Polynesian dated 1 November 1851

An item reported the departure from Honolulu, Hawaii on 31 October of the Belgian whaler Oceanic master Radou for Sydney, Australia. (1)

1. The Australian newspaper Empire dated Monday 21 April 1851 reported her departure on 19 April master G. Radou towards Tahiti, 521 tons. Act also as passenger ship?

Japanese tuna fleets were active in the South Pacific according to the Commercial Fisheries Review dated September 1964 No. 9

An item reported that by end of June 196 two Japanese tuna fleets were active in the South Pacific and caught mainly albacore and yellowfin although the fishing was now slowing doen. The fleet with mothership Yugo Maru (5,040 gross tons) was early June active in the vicinity of the Fiji Islands with a daily average catch of around 5 metric tons/vessel, in late June reduced to 2.1-2.5 tons. The fleet with the mothership Nojima Maru (8,800 tons) was active in the fishing grounds south of Tahiti, average dail catch of close to 3 metric tons early June reduced tot 2.5 tons in late June.

An item reported that the Japanese tuna fleet mothership Nojima Maru (8,800 gross tonnage) would leave Kobe, Japan on 10 May destined for Tahiti, South Pacific. The problems with signing up enough catcher vessels were in the meantime solved. There were now 65 catchers including 4 scouts contracted and which would bring the caught fish to the mothership

An item reported the arrival at Lahaina, Hawaii on 16 March of the French whaler Manche master Gilles 17 months out 22 barrels sperm oil 139 barrels whale oil coming from Tahiti, French Polynesia.

French aviso 1st class Kersaint visited the Dutch East Indies in 1907

The Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemacht 1906-1907 reported that the French cruiser Kersaint visited Surabaya, Dutch East Indies between 19-22 September 1907. The Dutch newspaper Soerabaijasch handelsblad dated 20 September 1907 reported her arrival on the 19th coming from Saigon. Commanding officer was M. Jaime. Called a gunboat. The edition dated 21st reported her entering the basin for loading coal.

An item that the American whaling ship Triton which was cut off in an affray on board at Sydenham’s Island arrived at Tahiti with several wounded men among her crew including her first officer. She was to depart within short time probably to Hawaii. “They reported that the Captain and boat’s crew who had arrived here were all murdered”.
