British troop transport Manchester Corporation in problems according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 27 October 1900

An item referred to tidings from Cape Town that the British transport Manchester Corporation lost her screw blades on a position 8 degrees south of the equator. On board were the Irish fusiliers and artillery. The transport Cymrio was send to search for her and ordered to tow her to the harbour. The newspaper Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode dated 27 January reported that her arrival at Cape Town was expected on the 20th and she was found in a quite worse condition.

1. The Second Boer War found place between 11 October 1899 and 31 May 1902 and ended in a defeat of the Boers and regaining British sovereignty of the Orange Free State and South African Republic (Transvaal). In 1920 became the Union of South Africa part of the Commonwealth.
