From Candia arrived tidings dated 7 August that Mehemet-Ali Pasha of Egypt send a strong squadron towards the waters of Rhodos and to watch the Turkish fleet. At the moment the Egyptian fleet consisted of 9 ships of the line, 5 frigates, 5 corvettes, 6 brigs and goelettes and one steamboat. One of these days is also the new ship of the line No. 10 completed. The main part of the fleet patrolled along the Egyptian coast as far as the waters of Candia.
