In the newspaper Diario de Governo dated 19 June was a letter published written by Lord Cochrane on board of the Pedro I off Bahia 2 July. He reported that the Portuguese had left the city by 13 warships of different sizes and some large merchant ships with troops on board. Cochrane possessed at hat moment only over the Pedro I and the Maria da Gloria, while the Carolina returned to Morro and the Nitheroy still didn’t arrive.
