British admiral de Robeck asked for more battleships to control situation in Turkey according to the Secret Admiralty Weekly Intelligence Summary Nr. 63 for the week ending 28 February 1920


An item referred to a telegram sent to the Foreign Office by Admiral de Robeck (1) sent on 21 February dealing with the situation in Turkey and the actions of the nationalists and he asked for more Allied battleships to maintain control.(2)

Notes

1. Sir John Michael de Robeck, 1st Baronet (10 June 1862 Naas, Ireland-20 January 1928 London, England), in service between 1875-1924, in 1925 promoted to Admiral of the Fleet, between 1919-1922 Commander-in-Chief Mediterranean Fleet, hoisted his flag on board of the battleship HMS Iron Duke in July 1919 and was also British High Commissioned in Turkey.

2. Part of the Iron Duke-class, preceded by King George V-class, succeeded by Queen Elizabeth-class, laid down by Portsmouth Dockyard on 12 January 1912, launched on 12 October 1912, commissioned in March 1914 and sold to be broken up in March 1946.
