German navy preparing evacuating Mariupol, Ukraine according to the German War Diary of Admiral Black Sea dated 2 September 1943

An item reported that the German 6th Army Headquarters was informed that the coastal defence of the north coast of the Taganrog Bay was ensured by suitable vessels, The Kriegsmarine was able to transport daily 500 tons needed for evacuating Mariupol to Berdyansk, Ukraine. The German army was to provide military and facilities needed for the loading and unloading of the vessels. The available facilities at Berdyansk had to be improved. In the meantime became the German Naval Shore Commander Ukraine responsible for the actual transportation.
