French merchant ships seized by the USA and United KIngdom according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Haarlemsche courant dated 23 May 1941

An item dated Paris, France 22 May reported that according to French newspaper French authorities forbade two American ships to leave the harbour of Marseille. This order was a response of the seizure by the USA of French ships lying in American harbours. Two French tankers including the Shéhérazade were on the Atlantic Ocean stopped by the British Royal Navy. The Shéhérazade was loaded with oil underway from the USA to Casablanca, French Morocco. She possessed a certificate but the seizure was a result of the latest developments. The French shipping company Messageries Maritimes stated that from that moment on French ships would no longer enter the harbour of Manilla, Philippines.
