The Spanish navy and her shipbuilding at Ferrol, Spain in 1850

For years was in the Netherlands a magazine published dealing with maritime affairs in the whole world, navy and merchant. In 1850 was a small news item published, earlier published in the United Service Magazine of July 1850. According to this news item were all the Spanish yards, especially at Ferrol and Carthagena, busy in fitting out warships. At Ferrol were more than 1400 labourers working. The first Spanish warship was built at Ferrol. Since 1799 were there 5 3-deckers, 38 ships of the line, 31 frigates, 12 transports, 10 brigs and a large amount of smaller vessels built. Between 1754-1757 were 14 ships of the line there built, since 1802 just a frigate, since 1804 a corvette and until 1824 was the yard then closed.
