Chilean navy limited in numbers according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad morning edition dated 24 November 1891

According to a tiding from Valparaiso send to the newspaper The Herald tried the Chilean government to reduce the expenses. President Montt advised the Congress that the navy would consist of 6 ships of the 1st, 6 of the 2nd, 3 of the 3rd class, 2 transports, 2 training vessels, 8 smaller vessels and 2 torpedo boats.
