The German naval bill according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag dated 29 March 1906

In the German parliament the Reichstag started the second series of discussions dealing with the new naval bill causing the building of six cruisers of o larger measurement as the ones in service.
The national liberal count Oriola (1) voted for saying that Germany had to be such a strong naval power that no other country started a war at sea before thinking twice. The socialist Rebel was against the bill. As long as the political situation in Europe was unstable none country could allowed to neglect her defence. But his party believed in a common sense foreign policy instead of increasing the he fleet. Germany needed allies and not a stand alone position. Secretary of States Tirpitz (2) defended the bill. The Liberal People’s Party proposed to introduce a property tax to cover the costs.
