Japanese cargo-passenger ship Haruna Maru 1920-1942

Official number 28462. Call sign IJND. Gross tonnage 10.421 tons, tonnage under deck 8.392 tons, net tonnage 6.311 tons and as dimensions 405.0 x 62.0 x 37.0 feet. Nine watertight bulkheads. Originally strengthened for gun mounts. Coal bunker capacity 2.100 tons allowing a speed of 14,5 knots a range of 10.000 nautical miles.Laid down by Mitsubishi Zosen Kaisha Ld., Nagasaki, Japan on 10 September 1920, launched on 5 November 1921, completed on 31 January 1921 and owned by Nippon Yusen KK, Tokyo, Japan. Requisitioned by the Japanese Imperial Navy as a troop transport (the IJA No.848). Stranded on a reef on the geographic position 34-35 North and 138-15 East, east of the Omaezaki lighthouse and finally sunk during a salvage operation on 21 July.
