Part of Blue Ridge-class amphibious command ships. USA-flagged, homeport Gaeta, Italy, MMSI 111853581 and call sign NOGB. Building ordered on 10 August 1966, laid down by Newport News Shipbuilding&Dry Dock Company on 8 January 1969, launched on 8 January 1970, commissioned on 16 January 1971.
Displacement 18,400 tons full load and as dimensions 189 x 33 x 9.06 metres (full load) or 620.1 x 108.3 x 29.8 feet. The geared turbine and 2 boilers allowed a speed of 23 knots. Crew numbers 170 men+155 Militaru Sealift Command civilian sailors. Armament consists of Phalanx CIWS, 2-2.5cm Bushmaster cannons, 4-12.7mm/0.5”machine guns, Mark 36 SRBOC chaff rockets and one helicopter.
