Chile improving navy and coastal defence according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1911-1912 no. 8

An item reported that the Chilean cabinet decided to increase her navy and to strengthen some important sea harbours. A commission of navy officers appointed to design the reinforcements for the harbour of Arica finished their proposals and on short notice were the activities to convert this town into a strengthened navy bases to start. For around 12.000.000 (valuta?) was the building of 6 destroyers at the shipyard of White&Co and for around 28.000.000 the building of a 28.000 ton dreadnought armed with 30,5cm guns at Armstrong ordered. Along the coast line between Punta Arenas and Arica over a distance of 2.160 nautical miles were wireless telegraph stations founded.
