Polish destroyer ORP Wicher (1949) 1958-1975

A Project30bis destroyer built by the Zhdanov shipyard, St. Petersburg, Russia with yard number 603 as the Skoryy on 15 February 1949, launched on 14 August 1949, added to the Soviet Baltic Fleet, handed over to Poland on 29 June 1958, decommissioned in 1975 and broken up. With a displacement of 2,353 (standard)-3.115 (full load) tons and as dimensions 120,5 x 12 x 3,9 metres or 395.4 x 39.4 x 12.10 feet. The machinery consisted of 2 geared turbines and 3 boilers supplying 60.000 ship via 2 shafts allowing a speed of 36,5 knots and a range of 4.080 nautical miles with a speed of 16 knots. Crew numbered 286 men. Armament consisted of 2x2-13cm/5.1 B 13 guns, 1x2-8,5cm/3.3 anti aircraft gun, 7x1-3,7cm/1.5” anti aircraft guns, 2x5-53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes and 60 mines or 52 depth charges. The Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad dated 28 May 1968 reported the visit of Polish warships for the first time since the last 34 years. It were the submarine chaser Wicher and the submarines Bielik (Russian built) and the Sep. The latter was in 1938 built by the Rotterdamsche Droogdijkmaatschappij. The ships arrived on 27 Monday afternoon and berthed alongside the Parkkade.
