American destroyer USS Davis (DD-937) 1955-1990

Arrival on 29 July 1957

Of the Forrest Sherman-class destroyers, preceded by the Mitscher-class and succeeded by the Farragut-class. Building ordered on 3 February 1954, laid down at Bethlehem Steel, Fore River shipyard, Quincy, Massachusetts, USA on 1February 1955, launched on 28 March 1956, acquired on 28 February 1957, commissioned on 6 March 1957, decommissioned on 20 December 1982, stricken on 27 July 1990, sold tot he Fore River Shipyard an Iron Works, Quincy on 11 December 1992 to be broken up, but duet o the bankruptcy of this company resold to N.R. Acquisition Inc., New York City, USA and finally broken up by Wilmington Resources, Wilmington, North Carolina. Displacement 4.000 tons (full load) and as dimensions 12,4 x 13,7 x 6,4 metres or 418 x 5 x 21 feet. With a horsepower of 70.000 hp/52,2 MW was her speed 32 knots. Crew numbered 308 men including 8 officers. Original armament consisted of 3x1-2 12,7cm/5”cal 54 Mark 42 guns, 2x2-7,6cm/3” cal 50 Mark 33 anti aircraft guns, 2 Hedgehogs and 4 53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes.
