Dimensions of Danube barges, and passengers ships suitable for service on the Black Sea in 1943

A letter of the Reichskommisar für die Seeschiffahrt dated Berlin 25 October 1943 was dealing with building and fitting out of ships to be used on the Black Sea. He supplied details about several kinds of inland vessels. For Vienna, Austria and Budapest, Hungaria: the largest barges had as dimensions 80 x 9 x 2,30 (loaded) metres and with the largest beam 76,5 x 10 x 1,93 (loaded) metres. Largest tugs 71,5 x 156,7 x 1,45 metres and with the largest beam63 x 17,3 x 1,70 metres. The dimensions of the largest passenger ships were 84,5 x 17,4 x 1,80 metres. The latter ships (Vienna, Austria) were used as hospital ships all over the Danube.
