Dutch coastal defence ship Hr.Ms. Piet Hein transporting Dutch ambassador back to China according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 5 December 1900

An item reported that the De Ostasiatische Lloyd was informed that Mr. Knobel (1), Dutch ambassador at Peking, China went back to Peking on board of the Dutch cruiser Piet Hein. (2) Reason for his departure was that the legations at Shangai were freed.(3) The newspaper De Locomotief dated 26 November reported that the Dutch cabinet ordered to bring back the ambassador.

1. Fridolin Marinus  Knobel (31 May 1857 Amsterdam-Nederland-16 October 1933, Berlin, Germany), liberal diplomat and politician.

2. Of the Evertsen-class coastal defence ships, succeeded by Koningin Regentes-class, laid down by Nederlandsche Stoomboot Maatschappij, Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1893, launched on 16 August 1894, commissioned on 3 January 1896, decommissioned in 1914 and broken up.
