Design for Italian 45.000 tons battle cruiser by naval engineer Ferdinando Cassone in 1921

In fact there were two versions of this designs, one with a displacement of 45.000 and one of 57.000 tons. Displacement 45.000 tons and as dimensions 256 x 32 metres. Machinery consisted of 4-50.000 hp turbines and 18-12.000 hp boilers supplying totally 216.000 hp allowing a speed of 35-40 knots. The main armament consisted of 3x2-45.6cm guns, the secondary armament of 2x3-15.2 cm guns and an unknown number of smaller guns mounted in casemates. Armour consisted of a tapered main belt with a thickness of 43.6 c 35cm and 15cm thickness and horizontal protection of 12+5cm. The second design had a displacement of 57.000 tons and as dimensions 280 x 34 x 9.50 metres. With a horsepower of 200.000 hp was the speed 33 knots. The main armament was 8-45.6cm cal 45 guns.
