According to an extract of a private letter dated Sint Thomas 1 June arrived Captain de La Borde with the frigate la Diana coming from Havana. Some months earlier he commanded the Spanish frigate la Legera which was wrecked at the coast of Cuba. By his arrival at Puerto Cabello he fought with the division of the Independents and captured after a fierce fight the corvettes la Constitucion and la Maria Francisca of 28 guns. The first was commanded by Captain Maitland, the second by Mr. Daniels who was wounded. The frigate la Diana suffered hardly and without doubts will captain de la Borde join the Spanish general at Maracaïbo.
