The tidings dealing with the blockade of Mexico and Buenos Aires by the French suggested that problems were to expect. At Tampico found a serious 'conversation' place between the British consul and the commanding officer of a French warship and at the coast between Vera Cruz and Tampico was shot at some armed French boats while pursuing a merchant ship. Several French sailors were killed.
