The French navy in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 27 May 1823

Girona, 17 May. The frigate l'Arriège (1) frigate captain Laurent de Choisy returned 10 May at Toulon after escorting some French merchant ships joined underway by some Sardinian and Austrians ships from Smyrna towards Marseilles. In the Channel of Cerigo they met two well-armed pirates one of manoeuvring possible to attack at nightfall the aft part of the convoy. The French frigate pursued these pirate ships driving it on the rocks at the North point of Cerigo. Her crew of about 60 men escaped on land. When the frigate left Smyrna they left the frigate la Médée (2) knight de Rigny behind to protect French interests in that area.
