Navy harbour at Naples some times available for merchant ships according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 2 October 1852

The Dutch consul general at Naples reported that the Neapolitan government decided that when foreign steamships with storm or sea damage entered this port the masters were allowed to anchor in the navy harbour in case there wasn't enough space at the anchorage for merchant ships. The admiralty ordered that than a yellow en blue chequered flag be hoisted on top of the large lighthouse situated on the end of the merchant ships ports.
