Promotions in Spanish navy according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 9 December 1784
Madrid, 16 November. The crown appointed lieutenant general Don Antonio Barcelo as commanding general of the naval force destined for the Baleares and the coasts of the Barbary States while squadron leader Don Francisco Hidalgo de Cisneros second in command during the expedition against Algiers received retirement pay and the cross of the Order of Charles II. The king promotes several officers for their behaviour during the expedition to Algiers and other services namely 9 brigadiers, 24 captains, 34 frigate captains, 56 lieutenants, 86 frigate lieutenants, 101 ensigns, 52 frigate ensigns, from the Corps of engineers 2 captains and engineers commanding in command,3 frigate captains and engineers second in command, 3 ensigns and extra ordinary engineers, 1 frigate ensign and engineer adjutant, from the Corps of Navy Artillerists 1 frigate lieutenant and captain of a fire ship, 2 ensigns and lieutenants of a bomb and finally of the Corps of helmsmen 2 lieutenants.
