ordered on 31 August 1939, ;aid down on 23 October 1939, launched as the HMS
Heliotrope (K03) of the Flower-class corvettes by John Crown&Sons Ltd,
Sunderland, England on 5 June 1940, handed over to the US Navy under Land Lease
on 24 March 1942, commissioned as the Temtress-class patrol gunboat USS
Surprise (PG-63) on 24 March 1942, decommissioned on 20 August 1945, returned
to the British Royal Navy on 26 August 1945, stricken on 17 September 1945,
sold in 1946 and became the British merchant ship Heliolock, sold towards Taiwan
and renamed Ziang Teh, seized by Communist China and commissioned in their navy
as the Lin 1 and broken up by 1950.
