For years was in the Netherlands a magazine published dealing with maritime affairs. It contained notes dealing with the Royal Dutch Navy and the Dutch merchant shipping/trade, but also supplied information dealing with foreign navies, especially of France and Great Britain . Occasionally we can find information dealing with the navies of other countries like Russia , United States or even Mexico .
According to a note in this magazine the Austrian navy was due to an order of the emperor to consist of
3 ships of the line 1st class armed with 100-120 guns, 1000 hp, 3 ships of the line 2nd class armed with 80-90 guns, 6 frigates of the 1st class, armed with 60 guns, 3 frigates of the 2nd class, armed with 50 guns
3 frigates of the 3rd class, armed with 31 guns, 6 corvettes, armed with 23-28 guns, 2 sail frigates, 2 screw steam corvettes, 4 schooners, 12 transports, namely 3 screw steam corvettes, 3 paddle steamships, 4 aviso’s and 2 screw steamships, 4 screw steam schooners and 8 gunboats.
