Swedish torpedo cruiser Jacob Bagge 1896-1951


Laid down at Kockums Mekaniska Verkstads AB, Malmö 1896, launched 30 April 1898, completed 11 November 1898, commissioned 23 November 1898 seaplane tender 1925-1935, cadet training ship 1936,  decommissioned 13 June 1947 and broken up in 1951. Sister ships were the Ornen, Claes Horn, Psilander and the Claes Uggla. With a displacement of 835 tons standard were her dimensions 67,7 (over all) x 8,20 x ,3,07m (maximum). The engines joined by 8 boilers supplied 4,000 hp allowing a maximum speed of 19-20 knots. The coal bunker capacity was 105 tons. Her crew numbered 108 men. The original armament consisted of 2x1-120mm guns, 4x1-57mm guns and 1-380mm bow submerged torpedo tube. Between 1925-1935 she served as a seaplane tender with one plane on board. The armament was altered in 1942 in 4x1-57mm guns and 2x2-25mm guns (another source claimed 2x120mm guns, 2x25mm guns, 2x20mm guns and 12 mines) and again altered in 1945 to just one 1-20mm gun. The armour consisted of a 12-19mm thick turtleback shaped deck.
