Brazilian protected cruiser Benjamin Constant 1892-1926
Launched in 1892 at La Seyne, France and disarmed on 2 March 1926. With a displacement of 2,750 tons (Conway’s All the World’s Fighting ships 1860-1905; Naval Annual 1913: 2,8707 tons) were her dimensions 236’6” x 44’6” x 18’6” (Naval Annual: 236’ x 46’ x 18’) or 64,10 x 10,67 x 3,89 metres. The engines supplied 2,800 ihp allowing a speed of 14-15 knots while she had a coal bunker capacity of 287 tons. Her crew numbered 287 men. The armament consisted of 4-6” guns, 8-4.7” guns,3-12pdrs,2 revolvers and 4 surfaced torpedo tubes. The armour consisted of a 2” thick deck and the conning tower was protected by 3¼” thick armour.
