Movements of the Egyptian, Greeks and Turkish navies according to the Dutch newspaper Goessche Courant dated 8 October 1821

Tidings dated 30 September mentioned that the Turkish received considerable reinforcements and new orders. A squadron of ships of the line coming from Constantinople joined them and ships from the Pasha of Egypt. It were those ships of the line which after departing from Constantinople were attacked by the Greeks  and lost some vessels, sailing towards Rhodes for the rest of the Turkish fleet. There are rumours that another squadron had left Constantinople with the Kapudan pasha on board, but the arrival is unknown. There were also reinforcements expected from the so-called Barbary States. The latter still didn’t arrived and when their arrival was to be was also unknown. The Turkish admiral was ordered by the Sultan to destroy without any delay the Greeks fleets in the Archipelago and to support the expeditions of the troops which were to be landed. These orders were contradictory. If Cara Ali wanted to destroy the Greeks fleets he wasn’t able to support the transports and troops. One of the expeditions was expected to be executed against Morea where Turkish forts were besieged by the Greeks.
