An item reported that in the Congress a strong ’affection’ existed to appoint admiral William D. Leahy (1) as Secretary of Navy in stead of the deceased Frank Knox (2) and were rumours that Congress member even wanted to press president Roosevelt (3) to hand over the naval affairs to a professional. Leahy was at that moment chief of staff for the president.
