French transport l’Alllier destined towards Mexico according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 26 November 1865

A news item referred to the French newspaper Moniteur de la Martinique which reported that on 28 October at Fort de France French zouaves of the transport l’Allier destined for Mexico (1) fought with the garrison resulting in 19 dead and 40 wounded.

1. In 1852 numbered the French army free of this light infantry regiments all serving in Algeria. During the Mexican Intervention also known as The Maximilian Affair or Franco-Mexican War 8 December 1861-21 June 1867 they served in Mexico. The Maximilian Affaire referred to the Mexican emperor Maximilian I (the former Austrian Archduke Maximilian Ferdinand) executed on 19 June 1867. He served in the Austrian navy and responsible for modernizing this navy.
