Introduction of military service in US navy according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Venlosche courant dated 27 November 1941

An item dated Washington 26 November reported that the USA in the future probably was obliged to introduce military service for the US navy caused by a decrease of the number of volunteers with 15% said Secretary of Navy Knox in a press conference.(1) Other Duch newspapers like the Dagblad van het Zuiden voor Eindhoven, Meijerij, Peel en Kempenland and the Nieuwsblad van het Noorden both dated 27 November confirmed this item.

William Franklin Knox (1 January 1874 Boston, Massachusetts-28 April 1944 Washington, D.C.), Secretary of the Navy between 11 July 1940 and 28 April 1944, he preceded Charles Edison and was himself succeeded by James V. Forrestal. Knox was further more newspaper editor and publisher. Member of the Republican Party.
