British warships visiting Lisbon according to the Dutch newspaper Sheboygan Nieuwsbode dated 9 May 1860

An item reported that since almost 14 days a part of the British Channel Squadron commanded by rear admiral Freemantle (1) and apparently destined for Gibraltar visited Lisbon. It consisted of the 3-decker Royal Albert, six ships of the line and two frigates. When the ships departed on 23 March was almost every one on shore relieved. The British were not really loved mainly caused by the problems the sailors caused when they were ‘visiting’ the shore accommodations.

Note
1. The later admiral Sir Charles Howe Fremantle (1 June 1800-25 May 1869)He was appointed as commanding officer of this squadron in July 1858.
