Spanish armoured cruiser Carlos Quintos 1892-1933


In the Spanish navy classified as 1st class battleship but in reality just an armoured cruiser. She was laid down in 1892 at the Vega-Murguia Shipyards at Cadiz, Spain and launched on 12 March 1895. Her parts came from several countries like the armour from Germany, the stern(post) from England and the gun turrets were manufactured in France and completed in June 1898. Two years after her launching were the turrets placed in Le Havre, France. Decommissioned in 1921-1922 was she stricken in 1932 and broken up a year later. The armament consisted of 2x1-11”(28cm) guns, 8-5.5” (14cm) guns, 4-3.9” (10cm) guns, 2-2.7” )7cm) guns, 2-2.2” (5,5cm) guns and six torpedo tubes. Building costs 18.000.000 Spanish pesetas. The gun turrets were protected by 9.8”/25cm armour, the sides and deck were protected by 6,2cm. With a displacement of 9,235 tons were her dimensions 404 x 67 x 25 feet or 116 x 20,7 x 7,8 metres.  The engines supplied 18,500 hp allowed a speed of 16 (reality)-20 (theoretical) knots while the coal bunker capacity of 1.200 tons an range of 12,000 nautical miles with a speed of 10 knots allowed. The crew numbered 590 men.
