An item reported that the French union of shipbuilders announced that on 1 September 58 tankers with a total tonnage of 2.429.000 tons in France were being built or ordered to be built. It proved that the ships became bigger and bigger was that that the middle tonnage of a French built tanker was increased from 28.431 tons in 1958 to 52.650 tons in 1962. In 1959 were the first of the ordered super tankers of 70.000 tons to be launched in France. These were the largest tankers at that moment built in Europe.
