Mexico ordered building gunboats according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1901/1902 no. 8

An item referred to the magazine Le Yacht which reported that for Mexican account two small gunboats were being built. With a displacement of 1.000 ton were the dimensions 61 x 10,05 x 3,05 metres. The 2 triple expansion engines and water tube boilers supplied 2.400 ihp allowing a speed of 16 miles. The armament consisted of 4-10,2cm guns, 4-40,57cm guns and a torpedo gun.

1. Probably the  Tampico-class consisting of the Tampico and the Vera Cruz, built at Elizabethport NJ and stricken around 1925. The edition of the Marineblad 1904-1905 nr. 6 supplied some details of the Mexican gunboats Vera Cruz and Tampico, both had a displacement of 980 tons and the horsepower of 2.400 ihp allowed a speed of 16,5 respectively 16,2 miles.
