An item referred to the magazine M.R. October 1938 that in the last months several officers were executed for reason that their attitude was defensive. It were admiral Orlow who represented the Soviet Union during the British coronial celebrations at London, admiral Sivkow who commanded the Baltic Fleet and admiral Lydry head of the Navy Academy. In disgrace hit and branded as traitor were admirals Iwanow (commanding officer of the Marat), Viktorov (successor of Orlow), Muklewitch (head section shipbuilding), Koschanow (commander Black Sea Fleet), Kireyew (commander East Asiatic Fleet), Duschenow (commander Ice Sea fleet) and Kadatky (commander Amur-flotilla). Further more the professors Scherve and Petroff of the navy academy and more persons. All navy officers from the past on important positions were no loner in active service. They were blamed as said for their defensive attitude in their desire for a fleet consisting of submarines and light forces in stead the natural need of the Soviet Union of a strong ocean going fleet of battleships of cruisers which were now being built. Excluded the Arctic harbours seemed these officers have thought that all Russian harbours were not safe for air attacks and so was it irresponsible to built battleships. In the future were all midshipmen to be securely examined for their political ideas.
