British steam tanker San Gerardo in problems according to the Dutch newspaper Voorwaarts dated Tuesday 26 November 1929

An item dated Rotterdam the 25th reported that the British steam tanker San Gerardo (12.915 gross tons, built 1922) underway from the Tyne towards Aruba on Saturday afternoon at 12.00 oclock lost her rudder on the position 45.55 North latitude and 15.26 West longitude. Due to the gale was not possible to fit a temporarily rudder. The Dutch tug Ganges of L. Smit&Co.s Internationale Sleepdienst was nearby and would try to fasten her. The tug Zwarte Zee of the same company left Queenstown and was expected tomorrow morning. A second item reported that the Ganges managed that morning to brig a rope over to the San Gerardo at 8.00 oclock but the heavy weather prevented any progress. The Zwarte Zee was expected to arrive next (early) morning.
