American naval strength according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 14 August 1852

An item reported that the US navy on 1 September 1851 consisted of 12 ships of the line (of which 3 still on stocks), 14 frigates, 21 corvettes, 7 brigs, 15 war steamships and 5 transports, totally 74 units.
