According to a news item published in October 1768 left the Dutch warship Amazone (1) commanded by Captain Willem May in December 1767 with 230 men Plymouth and sailed towards the coast of Guinea. 13th June was Kaap Despuntas at Delmina left and 18 July 1768 they arrived off the river of Surinam, South America. During the whole voyage none of the crewmembers became sick. Certain spices used on board were responsible for this success.
