Movements of the Greeks and Turkish navies the Dutch Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 4 October 1821

Trieste, 9 September. The often denied second defeat of the Turkish fleet in the waters of Samos was indeed true although not at the scale as suggested by some tidings. The Turkish managed to reach open sea, while the Greeks captured two of their frigates. But one ship of the line and some transports embarked with Asiatic troops were burnt and other transports shot down.

Livorno, 12 September. According to letters from Tripoli was the Bey ‘requested’ by the sultan to fit out all his ships and join the Egyptian flotilla. This combined force was to be commanded by Ismael-Gibraltar. The fleets of Tunis and Algeria were commanded by their own admirals and left to depart within short time. All were to join the Turkish fleet at that moment off Rhodes and commanded by the Capitan Pasha.
