London, 1 August. According to a rumour in London the day before arrived captain Parry with his ships safely at Valparaiso. This rumour was based on two letters from Downs. One was written by the commanding officer of the admiral dated Deal 26 July. According to this letter arrived the Orion master Burnett yesterday evening coming from Valparaiso with the tiding that Parry finally succeeded with his North West Expedition and with his ships arrived at Valparaiso. The Orion is a whaler fitted out in the South Sea, the date of her departure from Valparaiso was not reported. The other letter was dated Walmer 29 July. According to this arrived Monday evening a South Sea whaler from Valparaiso with the news that Parry succeeded in finding a passage and that everything was well.(1)
