Better living conditions in British navy according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 16 December 1852

According to the newspaper London Times became sailors more interested to serve in the royal navy due to the suggestions of a commission to the House of Commons to improve the living conditions. After Christmas they were to get again the usual amount of grog without losing the tea which had earlier replaced the grog. On the other hand were measures to be taken that those sailors who did not consume alcohol their position not gave to their fellows.
