Movements of the Turkish navy in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 18 August 1837

According to a letter dated Constantinople 26 July published in the newspaper Allgemeine Zeitung departed the Turkish fleet after the tiding came that Mehemet Ali wanted to visit Candia. The Kapudan Pasha was ordered to cruise with his squadron in these waters to met the viceroy in a manner that it liked a coincidence and not deliberately. It was hoped that the Kapudan Pasha would do with all regards versus the viceroy regarded the remarks the latter made considering the failed sending of Sarim Effendi to Alexandria. The Kapudan Pasha was also ordered to press sailors during his voyage. The squadron left 23 July but was still in the entrance of the Dardanelles due to contrary winds in the Sea of Marmora.
