Dutch navy constructors now part of own navy engineers corps according to the Dutch newspaper Weekblad van Den Helder en het Nieuwediep dated 21 August 1843

An item dated Den Helder the 19th reported that the crown accepted a proposal of the minister of navy dealing with the ranks and position of personnel working in the shipbuilding. Constructors and deputy constructors were now part of a special corps navy engineers. The constructors were appointed as chief engineer with the rank of captain lieutenant. The deputy constructors were divided in engineers 1st and 2nd class with the ranks of respectively lieutenantst 1st and 2nd class. The aspirant engineers had a rank comparable with the midshipmen in the navy.
