Dutch governor general Daendels bound for the Dutch Gold Coast (Ghana) according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 18 May 1816

An item dated The Hague, Netherlands the 15th referred to rumours reporting that the Dutch governor general Daendels (1) bought at Sierra Leone a brig called Goudkust with the intention to depart begin January towards Axum and St. George d’Elmina.(2)

1. Herman Willem Daendels (21 October 1762 Hattem, Netherlands-2 May 1818 Elmina) governor general at the Dutch Gold Coast between 1 March 1816 and 22 April 1818. The name of the ship he bought Goudkust can be translated as Gold Coast.
2. St. Georges Castle Elmina, Dutch Gold Coast (nowadays Ghana).
